DEFEND YOUR PLACE OR PORTION

In 2 Samuel 23:8-12, David had fought a lot of battles and was announced when in the place of battle with Goliath. David’s men were not really announced but in this Passage the names of some David’s men were recorded. David was about dying, and God decided to let his men’s work be announced. In 1 Sam 22:1-5, 400 men gathered but not many mighty men were recorded. Men are considered mighty because challenges came their way, but they responded by standing and winning the battle. In Genesis 14:14, What five kings couldn’t do, Abraham did with 318 men because God was backing him. In 2 sam 23: 9-10, Eleazar smoth the philistines until his hand got weary. The sword in Eleazar’s hand could be signified as the word of God. Eleazar’s hand was weak but it was still attached to the sword until he won the battle. We should not rest till all our enemies are discomfited and our victory is won.

2 Sam 23:11-12 Shammah fought the enemies of Isreal gathered round about a field filled with lentils. The battles in a field of lentils here could mean battle because of the goodness around you. You can know your worth by the battles the enemy brings your way. if there is nothing in your life, why is there so much battle around you. The closer we get to God the higher our name comes to the devil. Herod came to destroy Jesus because of what lay ahead. there is something the enemy is seeing that we are not seeing. We are targets because of what surrounds us. Robbers target what we are carrying. Many times when there is a blessing in the corner the enemy sees an opportunity to attack. In 2 Sam 23:11 The Israelites fled from the Philistines when they saw their weapons. The names of Those that fled were not recorded in the bible because no one records the name of quitters. In vs 12, Shammah stood in the middle of the field which shows balance and being in the center of God’s will. 

Are you in the center of God’s will, then the battle will be won. Are we totally surrendered to his will then we will have victory. How did Shammah know the middle of the field. He knew the middle of the field because he prepared ahead, and he was conversant with the field. Proverbs 21:31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle. we need to be prepared beforehand for the day of battle. Genesis 14:14 Abraham took 318 of his trained servants for battle meaning that he trained them ahead ready for battle. 2 Corinthians 10:6 says that each day is a day of preparation. 2 Sam 23:12. It is the man that takes a stand that gets victory from God. Eccl 9:11 The race is not to the swift or battle to the strong.

Steps to defending your place or portion

The steps we take in God are necessary for God to show up in different points in time of battle and for us to have victory.

1.       Psalm 20:7 – Trusting in the name of the Lord, we stand not in our strength.

2.       Ps 147:10- fear God and put your hope in his unfailing love. Never trust in your strength.

3.       Psalm 3:3- Let God be your glory. seek Strength from God.

4.       Be strong in the lord, be strong in the power of his might

5.       Put on the whole armour of God.

6.       Balanced and matured christian life

7.       Take responsibility in God, do not sit and wait for victory, you need to fight and defend your space.

PRAYER: O lord Jesus Christ, I come to you with an open heart. Please forgive my sins and wash me with the blood of Jesus Christ. Make me whole and accept me, deliver me from all my battles and help me to defend my portion. In Jesus name i pray. Amen
